Pick up and set down of passengers has long been done by CMR on an ad-hoc basis or for special occasions, however it
was decided that in conjunction with support from City of Canning towards the possible development of this station area, more
intense operations were needed.
It was decided to trial the runs on a Saturday instead of the usual Sunday runs, however,
following a 12 month trail period, the visiting public made it clear that Sunday was the better day for a train ride.
To this end, the Saturday runs, will now be run on the THIRD SUNDAY of the month from Wilson Park.
In order
to be able to handle these extra rundays, the club felt that additional locomotives were required, therefore the purchase
of a privately owned diesel locomotives was negotiated. Known as #2000 or Dependable Transport, this locomotive quickly settled
in to regular Saturday running and became club property in January of 2005. A further addition to the fleet will be the imminent
introduction to service of a new purpose built locomotive named City of Canning, a photo of which is shown below.
These
rundays are steadily building up in patronage, and in the future are sure to be some of our busiest rundays of the year.
